Partner as a Volunteer

There are often people who have an interest in being involved at First United to help to prepare meals, serve food, hand out toiletries, etc, . In general we would encourage such persons to consider becoming part of the life of the community as a member (rather than as an ‘outsider’ supporting the community). We actively encourage involvement and membership to build the inclusivity of this community. In roles that don’t require any real expertise, we actively discourage “visitors’ or “Volunteers” that are not really wanting to engage in the mutuality of community. Those roles are generally best filled by community members.

However, we do have a need for (and have very much valued) expertise that is offered to us free of charge. We continue to have a need for Volunteers/Partners who would be willing and able to offer very specific skills in areas such as:

  • HR policies and systems
  • Supply Chain Management
  • IT and IS
  • Food Management
  • Building Maintenance and Repair
  • Legal Support
  • Audits and Reviews
  • PR, Social Media and Fundraising
  • Event Planning and Event Management
  • Project Management
  • Social Housing Development and Management
  • Psychiatric and Psychological Services
  • Medical, Dental or Nursing Services
  • Property Development
  • Interior Design
  • Large complex building/development projects

From time to time we also have opportunities for people to be involved as partners/volunteers for brief periods of time or for specific short term functions – such as helping with our Christmas Card Program.

Currently, our database manager needs some help with contacting donors to thank them – and also to contact people in our donor database to update their information.

Volunteering is also possible without actually being in the building. There are a number of people who regularly make sandwiches for our coffee time or complete income tax forms off site. This can be a once a month commitment or more frequently if people choose to. Volunteers are also needed to collect and organize items for donations for First United.
