First United has been engaged in legal advocacy work since the 1970’s. We provide much-needed legal assistance, advice and representation to low-income and vulnerable people in the Downtown Eastside. Today, we support clients with upwards of 2,800 unique cases every year, helping people resolve a range of issues. The advocates at First United provide a broad spectrum of legal advocacy services but mainly focus on tenancy and social assistance issues.
Please note that we cannot necessarily offer full assistance or representation in all areas. However if we are not able to help, we will try to find someone else to take on the issue, if possible.
Important notice: Advocacy at First United has moved! We are now located at 542 East Hastings Street, 2 blocks east of the shelter. Our new phone number there is 604-251-3323 and our new fax number is 604-251-2488. Our hours remain the same.
We are committed to empowering people to assert their legal rights and make their voices heard. For donors looking to support our work, please visit our donations page.
Thank you to our current donors including The Law Foundation of BC, The City of Vancouver, The Seedlings Foundation, The Charles Johnson Charitable Fund, and Services Canada.
