Your donation provides more than just a healthy delicious meal - you're also giving stability and support
When Joe sets off to the contstruction site where he works, he's had a hearty breakfast. As a young man in his 30's, Joe's employment has been patchy. He's struggled with drug and alcohol use, but feels confident in his sobriety days, in part thanks to the familiar faces he sees every morning at First United.
Although the days are warming up and the sun is shining longer, hot and healthy meals remain essential all year long. This Easter, your support for our meal program allows us to provide breakfast and lunch for up to 200 people every weekday. But your generosity leads to so much more than just meals – each person who eats at First United has an opportunity to meet friends and neighbours, connect with our staff, and access all services and programs offered by First United.
One day, Joe hopes to complete trades school to become a carpenter and hone his woodworking skills. But a job is often not enough to prevent the emotional and spiritual pain that can send an individual spiralling into depression and addiction. When you give to the meal program at First United, you support person-centred supports that build stability and wellness.
Please give today,
and your donation will help people like Joe as he sets new roots and grows towards his goals.

There are many pathways
Many wonderful organizations and individuals sponsor meals at First. One meal sponsor reflected on the reasons why she and her family choose to support us:
In any religion they teach “do good and be kind,” so that’s just what we’re doing. I’m older now, and don’t drive anymore, so when I give I take the bus. It makes me so happy to be able to do this. God is a tree with many branches – there are many pathways to God.
Your gift to the meal program at First could provide hot, healthy, and delicious meals for our DTES neighbours or the supplies needed to serve these meals. It could also help us purchase much-needed equipment for the kitchen such as a new commercial coffee maker or convection oven. These upgrades allow us to maintain our ability to meet Vancouver Coastal Health’s safety requirements to keep all our diners safe.
Thank you for your gift and for the support you share with us all year long.
