Red Dress Day

Date 5 May, 2022

May 5 is Red Dress Day: a day when we honour, remember, and grieve the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit, who were taken from us too soon. The pain from the epidemic of MMIWG2S is felt particularly in the Downtown Eastside and amongst our staff, partners, and community.

This year, as an offering and act of healing, our Indigenous Spiritual Care Chaplain Lauren Sanders invites all to participate in meditative art practice today. “I wanted to offer this video time and space for those who have loved ones who are missing and loved ones who have been murdered. I invite you to grab some art or craft supplies, and create something with me.” Lauren also has advice for those who are not Indigenous or not connected to grassroots organizations and coalitions doing work on this issue…Watch Lauren’s video below and join in.
