Date 12 Jul, 2023
In 2017, community engagement, redevelopment and capital campaign feasibility studies set the stage for an incredibly ambitious project— the redevelopment of our site at 320 E Hastings. Five years later, site work got underway
April– Street Use and Salvage & Abatement permits are received, clearing the way for preliminary work to begin on site.
May– Final ceremonies are held at 320 East Hastings. FIRST’s services are relocated and construction fences are put up.
June– Hazmat work begins on site. BC Housing issues preliminary project approval (PPA).
July– Hazmat work is extended due to the discovery of high amounts of asbestos on site.
December– The City approves Building Permit Phase I and our capital campaign hits $27.3M.
March– Cost increases are shared at our AGM. FIRST’s fundraising goal is raised to $37M.
May– Hazmat work completes. The City of Vancouver issues our Demolition Permit and demolition begins. BC Housing confirms our Final Project Approval (FPA)
July– Building Permit Phase II is approved and excavation and shoring work (groundbreaking!) begin on site.
September– Below-grade construction begins with work on the foundation and parkade level of the building.
December– Above-grade construction begins, with work on the superstructure and finishes.
Winter– Twenty-four months after the start of below-grade construction, the building is complete!
