Too often, people in the Downtown Eastside are moved along and told “you can’t be here”. When you don’t have a home, there is nowhere you’re allowed or supposed to be. Our drop-in spaces provide welcoming areas where community members can find acceptance, connect with each other, participate in social activities, or just sit quietly with a cup of tea.
Our two drop-in spaces are also equipped for extreme weather response, whether too hot or too cold. Meeting Vancouver Coastal Health temperature guidelines, our drop-in spaces (along with other spaces in the building) can serve as an official warming or cooling centre. During wildfire smoke events, air circulation and filtration also enable the drop-ins to provide refuge from smoke.
