Hundreds of people come through the doors of First United each day seeking comfort, care and a place to belong. When you give goods to our Community Help Desk Program, you increase free access to basic personal hygiene and emergency care items and provide vital support to our neighbours in need.
Update: October 2021
First United is on the cusp of an exciting new future. During the redevelopment process of our building at 320 East Hastings, our programs and services will be moving to satellite locations throughout the Downtown Eastside. As of May 31, 2021 we will be able to accept limited in-kind gifts while our staff navigate their moves to new locations.
We’re currently in need of specific winter items to prepare for one of the coldest and wettest winters in recent memory. We’re looking for the following items in new or gently used condition:
- Winter boots
- Emergency foil blankets
- Winter jackets (men’s jackets are most needed)
- Men’s pants
- Sweaters and hoodies
- Sleeping bags and blankets
- Rain ponchos
- Hand warmers
In addition, we’re always in need of the following items in new and original packaging:
- Bar soap
- Razors and shaving cream
- Toothpaste and toothbrushes
- McDonald’s and Tim Horton’s gift cards in $5 or $10 amounts
- Men’s and women’s underwear
- Blankets (twin sized). No feather duvets, or afghans
- Twin fitted sheets (no flat sheets or other bedding)
We’re grateful for every item donated by our generous community, but due to limited space, moving, and our commitment to respond to the needs of the community, we can only accept the above listed items. We will update this space periodically to reflect which items our community members need and that we’re able to accept.
An appointment must be arranged to safely drop off donated gifts of goods. You can make an appointment by contacting:
